Surprise will change bulk trash pickup

Changes are coming to the Bulk Trash Pickup program offered to residents who are serviced by the city of Surprise Solid Waste Department.

Bulk trash will continue to be picked up by-appointment and at no additional cost to the customer; but, the rules for placement of the trash are changing.

Effective July 1, customers should place their trash in the street, up against the curb (gutter) in front of their property.

Where there is no curb, material must be placed at the edge of the street, not the sidewalk. Do not place piles within ten feet of any fixed object or in any manner which would interfere with pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, or fire hydrants.

Bulk trash can no longer be placed on private property, unless the home is located on a major roadway – streets like Bell Road and Litchfield Road or streets that feed into neighborhoods, also known as collector streets.

If trash must be placed on private property, due to location, the city will provide a liability release form that needs to signed.

To find out how to schedule a pickup appointment, which items are acceptable, what the pickup limit is, and when to place trash at the curb, visit www.surpriseaz.gov/bulktrash or call 623-222-1900.
