A man has died after being involved in a motorcycle accident two weeks ago, according to Peoria police.

Officials identified the motorcyclist as Andrew Woulard, 23 of Phoenix.

On March 18 at about 6:00 p.m. the Peoria Police and Peoria Fire-Medical departments responded to an accident involving a motorcycle and another vehicle at the intersection of West Thunderbird Road and North 75th Avenue.

A preliminary investigation revealed Woulard was traveling along Thunderbird Road at a high rate of speed. According to police, the driver of the passenger car was traveling eastbound on Thunderbird Road and turned north onto North 75th Avenue, possibly failing to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.

The vehicle struck Woulard, who was thrown from his motorcycle. Woulard was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but it flew off upon impact, according to police. Fire officials transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. He has since died due to his injuries.

The driver of the passenger vehicle and one passenger were not injured. The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation but reopened for normal traffic at about 10 p.m.

Peoria Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit continues to investigate the incident. However, impairment does not appear to be a factor. No arrests have been made and no citations have been issued.
