A highway official cited a man Wednesday afternoon for a collision in Surprise, according to a spokesperson.
On March 8, at about 2:40 p.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety received a report of a two-vehicle collision near US 60 and 163rd Avenue.
According to DPS, a fatigued 33-year-old male was traveling from Montana to Mesa and was heading southeast bound on Grand Avenue when he rear-ended a commercial truck-tractor pulling a flatbed trailer.
The commercial truck was stopped at red light. DPS estimated the rear-end speed was 55 mph.
The man drove a 1994 Ford passenger car. A male front-seat passenger, also 33, sustained serious injuries, and Southwest Ambulance transported him to Del Webb Medical Center, according to DPS.
The driver sustained a minor injury and was not transported. DPS will cite him for 28-701A, failure to control vehicle to avoid a collision.
The commercial truck awaited a tire change before clearing the area.
The roadway has since reopened.
