The 115th Avenue and Union Hills Drive intersection in Surprise will be closed beginning 9 p.m., Friday, July 21, to realign existing waterlines and install storm drain pipe and drainage structures.

The intersection is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m., Monday, July 31.

The closure is required to construct a portion of the 115th Avenue and Union Hills Drive project that will intercept flood water from the northeast and carry it south to the Agua Fria River when complete.

The project is a partnership between Surprise, the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, the city of Peoria and the Maricopa County Department of Transportation. It is designed to intercept flood water from the northeast and carry it south to the Agua Fria River, decreasing flood hazards to communities in the project area.

During the intersection closure, crews will work around the clock in an effort to expedite construction activities and minimize the duration of the intersection closure.

Bell Road, Del Webb Boulevard, 107th Avenue and 99th Avenue may be used as alternate routes. Access will be maintained at all times for emergency vehicles.

The project is scheduled to be complete in summer 2018.

For information about the drainage improvement project, call the 24-hour construction hotline at 602-264-6416.
