Teen in critical condition after vehicle strikes him in Glendale

A teenager is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a vehicle struck him while riding his bike Thursday afternoon, according to Glendale police.

At about 3 p.m., a male juvenile was struck by a vehicle while on his bicycle riding across the street in the area of 5700 West Union Hills Drive, Officer Tiffany Smith stated in an email.

The teven crossed in front of traffic and a female driver was unable to avoid him. She remained at the scene.

Police donot believe impairment or speed are factors.

Officer Smith stated the boy was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to a local Valley hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Officer Smith. But she followed up with the hospital and the injuries are non-life threatening.

Poice have notified his parents.

Police advise drivers to avoid the area and use other routes. Eastbound Union Hills will be shutdown at 59th Avenue while the westbound direction is blocked at 57th Avenue.
