Robert “Bob” was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, he attended Admiral Farragut Academy in New Jersey and graduated from the American University in Washington DC.
He was a human resources professional working mostly for the U.S. Army in installation management for 25 years and later in the manufacturing industry in New Jersey as a Personnel Director for approximately 13 years. He served in the armed forces during the Korean War Conflict from 1950-1955 and was an Air Force and Army Infantry veteran. Bob was also an amateur Sports Car Club racer in the 1950’s & 1960’s.
Bob and his family were once residents of the Sierra Vista-Fort Huachuca Community where he also served as the US Army as Civilian Personnel Director from 1976 thru 1981.
Bob was also an adjunct instructor of Human Resource Management at Upsala College, New Jersey and Columbus College, Georgia. Once retired in Phoenix, AZ he volunteered with Hospice of the Valley and Liberty Wildlife Rehabilitation Foundation. Bob was an avid animal lover and a best friend to many.
Bob’s kind heart and calming demeanor left an impression on everyone he came in contact with, he was a genuine and incredible human being, and he will be greatly missed as both a father and best friend.
His wife of 53 years, the former Kathleen Lawton of Washington D.C. preceded him in death in 2017. He is now survived by his son, Robb Kenna of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters, Carolyn Karkhoff of Litchfield Park, AZ and Cecilia Shelton of Fountain Inn, SC; and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life and military services will be announced at a future date to give loved ones the needed time to make arrangements.
Contributions may be made to any animal rescue or your choice, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT or Hospice of the Valley and would have been much appreciated by Bob.
