A man involved in a deadly shooting in Peoria two weeks ago died Friday, the police announced Monday afternoon.

According to the Peoria Police Department, David Mattison, 53, died at a local hospital in the early morning hours on March 24 from injuries sustained by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after he shot and killed his wife Tammy Mattison.

The homicide occurred March 17 at an apartment complex at 8802 W. Peoria Avenue.

The couple’s daughter noticed her mother laying injured on the ground inside their unit and called police.

According to police, a neighbor came to the apartment to help the girl and told dispatchers that a woman was bleeding heavily from her ear. She had heard a loud bang from where she was located before assisting the girl. While on the phone she located a bullet casing near Tammy Mattison.

Officers arrived and found Tammy Mattison unconscious with a gunshot wound to her head. She died later that night at a local hospital.

Police found David Mattison inside his own apartment unit as he and Tammy were going through relationship issues.

The department continues investigating the incident but there are no additional suspects. Police continue to provide support and resources to the 12-year-old girl who called 911 and lost both her mother and father.
