Glendale police arrested two juveniles Monday after they stole a vehicle at gunpoint, according to a report.
The incident occurred at about 12:45 p.m. April 3 in the 6300 block of North 63rd Avenue.
According to police, a male suspect approached a man, pointing a black semiautomatic pistol and demanding his white 1990 sedan. The victim fled and as he turned around to look back at his car it was westbound on Maryland Avenue.
The vehicle slowed down to pick up another male suspect. Officers obtained surveillance video of the incident.
At 1:50 p.m. a detective was in the area of 67th Avenue and Ocotillo Road when he observed the stolen vehicle pull into the 6600 block of West Ocotillo Road. He watched four black males exit the car and walk up to an apartment.
The driver returned to the vehicle and left east bound on Ocotillo Road. Officers arrived at that moment, but the suspect drove north on 65th Avenue at a high rate of speed. Officers did not follow.
After a few minutes a resident told police the stolen vehicle was parked at 6400 West Flynn Avenue. Officers arrived and set up a perimeter.
The suspect was seen south of 6400 West Glendale Avenue and fled north through a parking lot. K9’s arrived and started a search.
Detectives observed the suspect at 6500 West Glendale Avenue. When they tried to detain him he fled north directly into the K9 tracking team. Officers arrested or detained all outstanding parties in the incident.
The two suspects were both juvenile males so their information will not be released, according to police. The other two males in the vehicle were not charged and were not involved in the original incident.
