The Arizona Department of Public Safety and Phoenix Police arrested more than 20 people in connection with street racing along Valley freeways on Sunday night.

On the evening of Feb. 19, DPS Highway Patrol Troopers and Phoenix Patrol Officers observed large groups of street racers, totalling more than 250, meeting and gathering at various locations in Phoenix, according to a spokesperson.

Officials believe some of the people in the groups may be connected to recent YouTube videos of vehicles blocking I-10 and driving erratically.

As the racers began to drive recklessly and at high rates of speed along city streets and Valley freeways, including Loop 101 in the West Valley, officials took action.

Deputies and officers made 65 traffic stops involving street racing. Officials arrested 23 people and cited 114 others.

Those arrested face charges including racing, criminal speed and reckless driving.
