Posted

Joyce, wife, mother, school secretary, potter and traveler — died February 5, 2021.
Joyce Marlene Brady was born September 24, 1938, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She attended Guthrie Center High School, where she was a cheerleader, basketball player, and marching-band clarinet player. In high school she met the love of her life, Carrol Raygor. They wed upon graduation, at 17 and 18, respectively. They had three girls — Brenda, Kristin and Amy. Joyce was a loyal friend who enjoyed the joy of others. Joyce had a lifelong passion for Iowa tomatoes and good quiche. She took pride in her career and being a second mom to the students at Longfellow Elementary. She excelled at planting flower gardens, shopping estate sales, finding a good deal, perusing cookbooks, playing cards with friends, creating art with pottery, and having her car’s seat warmer on, even on 117-degree days in Sun City, Arizona, where she and Carrol lived. Upon retirement, Joyce treated her daughters and granddaughter to a trip to New York City. Over the next 15 years, Joyce and Carrol traveled the world. For her 80th birthday, they marked off Louisiana and Mississippi, completing her tour of all 50 states. Joyce took extreme pride in her grandchildren: Ashley, Sage, Tate, Cole, Zach, and Nick, and greatgrandchild Emma. Joyce died of complications from COVID-19, alone in the hospital until the last moment, when a godsend nurse allowed in her husband of 64 years to hold her hand and say, “Toodleoo. So long for now, my dear.” Joyce’s dog, Finn, was a true companion. Carrol and Finn will now take care of each other. Joyce’s family will celebrate her life with an online memorial on February 16 at 6:00 p.m., MST. If you would like to attend, email Kristin at joyceraygormemorial@gmail.com.    God bless.
