Joann Ragan Henson

Joann, a retired elementary school principal, educator, wife and mother, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at the Granbury Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granbury, Texas. She was 87.
Mrs. Henson was born May 7, 1933, in Kilgore, Texas, and grew up in Midland and Odessa, Texas, the daughter of oilman D.E. Ragan and homemaker Vye Beauchamp Ragan. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1954 from Austin College of Sherman, Texas, and a master’s degree in 1975 from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas. She was a teacher and a school principal in Adams County, Colorado and also worked for the state of Kansas as an administrator of special education.
She was active in the Rhythm Tappers dance troupe in her retirement home in Sun City West, Ariz. She loved to paint, particularly colorful abstracts, and also enjoyed scuba diving and motorcycle riding. She enjoyed traveling and visited Australia, Brazil and Germany among other places.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Arnold Dean Henson originally of Odessa, TX; four children: Rebekah Brock of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Scoggins Cowan of Denver, CO, Paul Brock of Cody, WY, and Cynthia Wild of Melbourne, Australia; a stepdaughter, Meloni Sauer of Norman, OK; and a stepson, Allen Henson of Kerrville, TX; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard “Dick” Ragan Jr. of Midland, TX, who owned and operated the Ski Skellar; and her former husband, James E. Brock.
Funeral information is undetermined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to West Valley Center for Spiritual Living, 9745 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria, AZ 85345.
