A new charter school is planned for Vistancia, but many area residents say they have questions that have not been answered by the city.
So Peoria officials are offering a virtual neighborhood meeting for those who want to learn more about the new American Leadership Academy and amenities planned for the southern part of the 320-acre subdivision in Vistancia known as Five North.
The meeting is scheduled 6-7 p.m., May 1. The meeting link and registration is msteams.link/64NW.
The webinar will include information on the K-12 public charter school and joint-use park.
A recording of the webinar will be available on the city's website following the meeting. If residents have questions they would like addressed during the meeting, they may submit them to Mesquite Councilmember Brad Shafer's office, brad.shafer@peoriaaz.gov.
The next step will be a development agreement to be considered by council between the city and the school.
The school is expected to serve 2,400 students, with specific classroom facilities for K-6 students, and separate facilities for grades 7-12.
A full-service charter school campus is proposed, meaning the school will offer a full educational curriculum and extracurricular activities including performing arts and athletics programs.
Officials said the campus is planned to include lighted sports fields as part of a joint-use neighborhood park increasing community amenities in the area.
