Join the civil discussion: Independent invites readers to take ‘Civility Pledge’

Posted

You’re invited to join in civil discussions of important community matters.

Independent Newsmedia, the publisher of the Daily Independent at YourValley.net, strives to serve the community with accurate, unbiased news through comprehensive coverage of local, regional and national issues.

While we’re reporting on important issues, it’s often necessary for public debate to happen to propose different perspectives that our elected officials and community stakeholders may have not considered.

As a nonpartisan newspaper company, we believe all readers should engage in their communities and we want to provide a public forum, which is moderated to ensure fair play and civility, while upholding and protecting Free Speech.

We hope you’ll consider reading our Civility Checklist and commit to taking the Civility Pledge.

Please read and take the Civility Pledge and join our growing list of community members who want to discuss community issues in a respectful environment that encourages Free Speech with friendship, and civil debate ... and with no personal attacks.

Independent Newsmedia President & CEO Charlene Bisson praised the effort and encouraged readers to join the discussion today.

“At a time when social media and other agenda-driven outlets only seem to add to the frustration and hostility, we hope to remind our readers that civil discourse is still important, helpful and possible,” said Bisson. “We hope more of our readers will consider how to engage in respectful, honest and civil dialogue about these public issues and take the Civility Pledge.”
