Jean passed peacefully at home October 25, 2023, surrounded by family, at the age of 96. She was the first-born child of George and Frances Stangrover Nov. 3, 1926, on the family farm in Cowlsville, NY. She studied nursing at Alfred University, where she met the love of her life, Daniel Emerson Foster. They married in 1952 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage.
They moved to Portola Valley, CA shortly after their marriage and raised 2 children, several horses, Great Danes, Boxers, cats, ducks, raccoons, and many tropical birds, on their ranch. In the mid-1970s, they were transferred to Boston, MA followed by another transfer to Ridgefield, CT.
In 1981 they built their dream house in Fountain Hills and became heavily involved in many service and social clubs. They were early members of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church and Charter members of The Club. They are most remembered for their many appearances in the Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Fountain Hills Antique Car Club with their English Mastiff Mr. Magoo, riding in the back of their blue “Mr. Magoo Mobile” Cadillac convertible.
Jean was preceded in death by Dan in 2016 and their daughter Kathleen Scott in 2017, her parents and her 3 younger brothers.
She is survived by son Scott (Pam) Foster of Fountain Hills, grandchildren Andrew (Mary) Foster of Idaho, Nichole (Salena) Foster of Fountain Hills, Bradley (Maria) Foster of Mesa, AZ and 4 great grandchildren, Janie, Kitra, Daniel and Emery.
Per Jean’s wishes, there will be no service or memorial. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Fearless Kitty Rescue, 16832 E. Ave of the Fountains, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268. (480) 837-7777. She dearly loved all her animals but especially her many kitties.
