Earlier this month, Deer Valley Unified School District Governing Board approved a fee schedule for student parking and extracurricular activities, which takes effect Aug. 7, the first day of class.

The only change is to the family pass (20 punches), which increased to $65 from $60.

Under state law, the district is able to charge students reasonable parking fees to cover the cost of operating and securing the parking facilities. The parking fee is $100 per year.

The district also is authorized to charge students fees for participating in extracurricular activities such as athletics. However, principals are able to waive all or part of a fee if it creates an economic hardship for a student.

Fees for 2017-18 school year include:

• Athletic participation fee for high school is $100 per sport per student with a cap of $200.

• Middle school (7th and 8th grades) is $60 per sport, per student with a cap of $120.

• Family cap is $300 To attend an athletic event the cost is $6 for an adult for varsity football and $5 for a student. Other sport events is $5 for adults and $4 for students. A student athletic pass is $30 and the family pass (20 punches) is $65.

For field trips and other extracurricular activity fees, it is $1 up to but no more than the actual cost of the activity.
