Barbara, a 30-year resident of Sun City West, Arizona, died on Friday, October 27, 2023. She was born in Washington D.C. in 1937 and spent most of her younger years in Saudi Arabia, where her father worked for the American Arabian Oil Company. She attended and graduated from Marymount International High School in Rome, Italy in 1955. After graduation, she attended Long Beach City College where she met her husband, Ray. They were married in 1957 and started their family in Long Beach, California. In 1970, they relocated to Greensburg, Pennsylvania raising their 5 children, before retiring to Sun City West, Arizona. They were married for 66 wonderful years.
She loved hiking and picnicking at the White Tank Mountains and road trips with her husband, Ray. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV programs and YouTube videos! She was an avid sewer and a member of the Rip and Sew Club in Sun City West as well as the former President of the Sewing for Kid’s group. She was a member of Saint Clement of Rome Catholic church in Sun City, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Shinn in 2005, her parents, Robert and Iris Fleharty, sisters Gayle Peterson and Janet Williams.
She is survived by her husband Ray Shinn and children Karen Manz, Kathryn Goings, Nancy Shinn, James Shinn and her brother, Robert Fleharty, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was a loving grandmother to 6 grandchildren and never tired of their visits nor did her grandchildren, Patrick Manz, Bryan Manz, Allison Goings, Jack Goings, Lincoln Shinn and Ella Shinn.
A Funeral mass will be held at Saint Clement of Rome Catholic church in Sun City on Friday, December 1st, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.
