Robert R. Elwood
My friend, Bob Elwood, was born in Seattle, WA, January 5, 1936 and passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at a hospice home in AZ, at the age of 87. As a baby he was adopted by George and Laura Elwood—the most loving parents ever.
Bob went to Alki Elementary and graduated from West Seattle High School in 1954; he was vice president of his senior class, played tennis, enjoyed dancing and was very popular. One of the highlights in his later years was going to his 60th class reunion.
From day one he was a music lover and had 3 bands through his school years. Bob loved the drums the best but when he joined the Army National Guard during his student days at the University of WA he played the trombone. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and had a music degree from the University of Washington. He taught at Meany Junior High and West Seattle Denny Junior High for over 30 years (his dream of a career).
Bob married Linda Gail Russell in 1995. They retired to Sun City West, AZ, where they met many new friends and enjoyed their desert lifestyle.
Bob played in the Sun City West Concert and Dance Band for many years. Bob loved classic cars and won several awards, RV-ing with Gail, tennis and fishing at Surprise Lake.
Gail and Bob were known for their amazing parties. He was a wonderful caregiver to Gail who passed in 2017. After selling his home, he moved into Chaparral Winds, an independent retirement home in Surprise, AZ, and enjoyed his new companions and the very caring staff.
Bob was a man who cared about people and was always willing to offer his help—especially his wallet. God is welcoming a true gentleman into the heavenly gates.
He is missed by his stepdaughter Stacie Mikeal, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren but most of all by his friends who although small in number will remember him as a great guy and good friend.
